Back to Reality

To any of my followers or the occasional visitor, I apologize for no recent posts. It's been a busy summer. I took a much needed vacation and was able to spend some time with my 2 year old grandson. I do believe he is smarter than I am. But now it is September, fall is actually in the air here in Kentucky and it's time to get back to reality and work.

For Metamorphosis Monday, I've been working on a few pieces and hope to get pictures up next week. A few of them I forgot to get "before" pictures :(

For Tablescape Thursday, I've dug out of the attic, and I do mean DUG out, my collection of dishes (much to my husband's dismay). Until I re-organize my one closet in my kitchen, they are stacked on the harvest table.

I have been setting the table every week in our dining room. But I've never taken any pictures. My husband really likes having our meals there on the weekends instead of in front of the TV. I wonder if he'll change that feeling once football season starts. I'll just have to schedule dinner between games.

So please check back and I promise I'll do better to post each week.

Mirror Mirror..Where do the days go??

The last couple weeks have just flown by. I haven't had the time to post anything as I was preparing for my trip to Florida to see my grandson. We must have priorities!

But I have been "re-purposing" a few items, and my husband has really been enjoying the fancy tablescapes. He said it makes my cooking taste better..wasn't sure how to take that comment.

So last Monday when I was out shopping for clothes that fit to take to Florida (I hate getting old & fat), I ran in my favorite thrift/consignment shop and spotted this vintage 70's gold plastic mirror. Grabbed it immediately..
This is funny...the first picture I took, I didn't realize my feet were in the picture...and I have NO idea why my ankles look two-toned, must be a shadow.

ANYHOW.....

The mirror sure was dirty but I really liked the detail with the roses and scrolls.
With a little elbow grease, LA Totally Awesome cleaner ($1.00 at Dollar General...it works GREAT on everything) and a scrubby pad I got the years of dust and gunk off of it. Grabbed a can of Fusion paint and turned it White.

Then I lighted sanded it on the high spots so the gold could show through....so Shabby Chic huh??

This post completely done while sitting on the beach in the sand...are you jealous???? I'm off to hunt for seashells to glue on something.

A Little Gossip....

Hello and Welcome...

For several months now I have been checking out this group of blogs every Monday and Thursday. I love seeing the great transformations and have picked up some great ideas.

First a little about myself, I'm a "Junkaholic". I love garage sales, auctions, and "junking" in thrift stores. Because of this addiction, I own a small antique shop in western Kentucky. There's a comical saying in my business...We Buy Junk and Sell Antiques.

I'm also a total packrat. I'm always picking up pieces of furniture, dishes, linens, and so much more....all with plans to give these treasures New Life. Some I've finished, some I gave up on, but most are still hiding in the attic or storage shed waiting for me. Now, because of all you wonderful women, I have the incentive to get them out and do something with them.

So this is my first blog, first participation in Metamorphosis Monday.

Last month we bought all the items of an estate. Mostly books and dishes, but a few pieces of furniture. We found this little gossip bench or telephone stand in the barn. It was is sound condition, but the veneer was badly damaged. My husband attempted to correct it but finally gave it to me to paint. I immediately knew I would shabby chic it.

I sanded it down, primed it and painted it a soft white that has just a hint of mint green. The paint came from Lowes..marked down to $5.00 for the gallon because it was a mis-tint. Love that cheap paint!

Then I cut a board for the seat, padded it and covered it with fabric that was actually a cover for a daybed that I picked up at a yard sale for$1.00.

A little light distressing and it was ready for sale or not..I may bring it home and put it in my foyer!

So that's my contribution for this week. Thanks for stopping by.
